Website Graphics - Design, Buy Or Hire?

Some Internet Marketers came to their profession by being a salesperson. Others were a website graphics designer. And lastly, some were a mix of both.
I would say I was a mix of web graphics designer and sales person with a splash of business know-it-all added for good luck.
So the question becomes, should you make, buy or hire your graphics that you need for your sales pages or squeeze pages?
I always ask myself, which will save the most amount of time for the project I am currently working on. I also ask myself, would it take longer to explain what I want to someone and let them do it or just do it myself.
Rarely do I take the premade website graphics option. But it is just because I can usually look at something and emulate it pretty quickly.
However saying that, if I am in a huge hurry (TIME IS MONEY), it becomes my fastest option. In other words, I can spend $20 on around a 1000 premade graphics and throw in what I need in about 5 seconds or take one hour creating the same thing.
Let's take an example and look at the costs in time and money.
Say I need a squeeze page done that has 4 graphics on it (website header, download now button, a lock and some cool looking text tricks).
If I made these website graphics custom, it would take me about 1 hour and cost me $100 of my time that I could have spent making more money. If I bought the 4 graphics, it would have taken me minutes and cost me $20. If I hired someone, it could have taken as much as 3 hours and $300 of my time and cost me another $30 to pay them using a service such as Elance.
So you can easily see, custom web graphics cost time and money.
But sometimes, it is all that will do.
